Hello...my names Sean and im new here on the puffer forum and to owning one of these awesome ceatures! I just recieved my FAHAKA puffer from Jeff rapps @ tangledupincichlids.com and was happy with my new 6" wet pet.Although I was concerned about a couple things....1- I received him with light faded blotches on his back. These blotches seem to be getting better though, hes been with me for a week now and isnt surfing the glass anymore and seems to feel at home now.and # 2 was that I have been feeding him krill, snails and cray fish and I read somewhere on this site that krill wasnt the best thing for him and its like crack for puffers? Any help would be appreciated as I want this guy happy and healthy!! thanx all

A little krill in the diet won't hurt. There are many good foods you can find in the produce/fish dept of your grocery store.

6", huh? How big is his tank? How did you cycle it to handle that much bioload?

Thankyou for the quick reply pufferpunk :D I will def check it out....frozen shrimp and? This little guy is in a 90g tank that has been occupied and cycled for 2 years now. He's in there with 3 convict fry just to see if he tolerates other fish at all and his snail freinds  He will soon be tranported to my 210g that has been occupied and cycled for 1 year now.....and when he gets too big for that he will go into my custom built 400g that has been running for 4 months now. I will just have to move some fish around. Im now hooked on puffers!!this guy is very fun to watch...I had a black river puffer but he just sat there all day and did nuthing besides bite the tails of my fish...my fault though. thanx again >Sean<

Share some pics :) if you're concerned about the blotches. My fahaka had a green back, but now he's showing some yellow blotches as he is getting bigger.

There's a lot of members on this forum who keeps fahakas. They sure are entertaining. I also got my "black river puffer" (aka M. Turgidus) from my bro's house today. My bro didn't like how my Turgidus sat on the substrate all day, so he gave this puff back to me and kept Turg's 40g tank >.<

I enjoy the company of this Turg though.

If the blotches are dull and uniform, I wouldn't worry too much. they take on a duller colour when they are resting/sleeping/lazy/uncomfortable.. My mbu does that when he sleeping.

Dang, I bet he'll LOVE those huge tanks. Lucky little guy! Just keep in mind that fahakas are notorious for their aggressive behavior towards other fish and their unpredictable tendencies - a seemingly peaceful fahaka might suddenly have a bad day and decide to bite the heads off of all its tankmates.

They are often mottled in appearance until they reach adulthood, sometimes longer

Also any fish that will get in his face ie cichlid will get torn to shreds
