how often on water changes?

i have 2 small puffers in a 30gal 1.005sg tank and i was doing 50% weekly water changes. they are being upgraded to a 125gal tank this weekend. i am slowly bringing up the sg. how often and how much do you think water changes will have to be done in a 125gal with two 2" puffers?

Keep an eye on the water parameters they will tell you when. I would not change less than 30% per week

it is still weekly to get the poop and uneaten food, but the volume may change.
Say your Nitrates are running in the 20 range now... 50% weekly will bring them back to 10.
In the larger tank it may take longer to hit 20 so you're doing smaller volume but with the same frequency. You don't sit and do nothing until it hits 20 or so. I'm not saying 20 is the magic number, that is up to you to decide.
Also if you are going full marine, those water changes could be as low as 5% or less depending on your set up.

Even now with the 30gal im at perfect waer peramiters and 0 nitrates at my weekly water change.

Then you either have plants taking up all the nitrates or you're not cycled. You should be showing nitrates, even if it's only a little.

too clean of a tank is not that good either. There should be some residual readings. Can you give us the full test results including Kh and Gh?

I really doubt that it it is possible to have any two-puffer tank "too clean". If your nitrate reads zero 24/7, you may have problems with your tests. Do your GH, KH, pH, and nitrate readings on these parameters always equal those of the replacement water? If not, your tank is not "too clean".
