We are moving
Well, we are moving, and I am excited to say that we are moving into an apartment with lamanet wood floors and more shelf space for more tanks! LOL.
I am really excited, the prospect of moving into somewhere with rent control and an in unit washer and dryer is just awesomely mind blowing (I spend a good $50 a month on laundry right now).
I bought storage bins last night to help me pack stuff. I am absolutely dreading moving the tanks. The littler ones not so much, the thought of moving the bigger one makes me shudder LoL. Gotta go get a nice piece of plywood.
Hopefully I will be able to have all my tanks out in the living area, and not in the bedroom. I really would like to have people see Luau, and I am sure he would love to be out with everyone else.
Anywhoo, if you all have any moving advice, a way to make things go easy and smooth, feel free to post them. I will definitely be taking pics this time around, so I will eventually post them up. =)

Re: We are moving
Moving is pretty easy if you have plenty of people to help.
Just suck out 90% of the water, keep the filter pad wet with aquarium water, and then keep your fish in a container or bucket on the way over.
I had an open truck, so I covered all the openings with plastic wrap. I didn't want any insects getting inside the tank. Insects disgust me!
Plan ahead and then you'll be ok!

Thanks! Definitely planning ahead. I am going to stick Yoshi in her own bucket, then put the blenny and other creatures in another bucket. I don't want her getting bored and poking at her tank mates...right now, her tank mates are tank mates and not food. I don't want to encourage the saying "anything with eyes is on the food list" LoL.. Started packing tonight. I am going to try to have everything moved asap, well, after we get the keys anyways. Plan is to make the tanks one of the last things to be moved, and we plan on either using the back of my car, or someone's truck. I hope. LoL. I have 5 to move, but it's only the big one I am concerned about. Also going to take this opportunity to get some stuff that I found at this neat coral shop-- it's sticky stuff to help the LR stick together, reef safe, and hardens even in water LoL. I want to build up some structures in the tank, to make it more interesting for Yoshi. Maybe I can get more LR eventually if I make more room in the tank...LoL. I can't wait!! I'll keep you all updated. =)

Re: We are moving
Good luck. Moving can be a nightmare but the end result is definitely worth it. Plywood can flex, use thick mdf or I use loft floor boards, they are cheap strong and wide.
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Re: We are moving
Remove all loose things (rocks, wood and things like that) from the tank before moving it, or it can accidently break the glass.

Make sure you've got plenty of heat packs . When I've had to move my tanks in the past , I've always done it the day the wc was due and kept a quarter of the tank water in containers , so it was like having a good 75% wc and its a great opportunity to really give all your tanks and equipment a proper thorough clean ....i find the old type freezer boxes ,that you use for picnics , camping etc are great for transporting fish ...ie insulated , water tight , let no light in and plenty room for water and more importantly oxygen . Or get some proper polystyrene fish box containers .

Re: We are moving
Biggest tank is 60 gallons? No big deal. I play it safe and remove the gravel and as much water as possible and then two people can carry a 75 easily.
If its chilly, consider using a cooler to put the fish in instead of buckets.. but I see you are in California, hehe.

I was actually thinking about what Puffer King wrote, and was thinking of asking the LFS if they had some breather bags I could buy from them. I want to be able to separate my otos and ghost shrimp from my dwarf and my GSP from the crabs, snails and blenny, etc. With the heat packs I could put them in a cooler and they would keep super well....that would fix one problem I was mulling over. At least they could all be in breather bags in the cooler for travel and keep until I am done setting up the tank, thanks for the suggestion! Now to find a cooler....LOL
I also want to take this time to get some of the coral/LR bonding stuff from the coral store around here and maybe make some structures out of my LR. This stuff hardens even in water so that's why I was thinking about it, also, I didn't do it sooner because the other stuff that I bought required dried rock, and I just found this coral store that told me about it. I figure that if I am going to move these tanks, I might as well do some major maintenance on them at the same time, ie cleaning the decorations, washing out the gravel out really well, rearranging stuffs. Also thinking of upgrading my F8 to a bigger tank, so I have to try to plan all this stuff out. All of them will get major water changes and a decent cleaning. I just have to try to get it all set up the way I want it the first time around, haha, at least the big tank. Once it's set up, I can't really move it around like I can the little ones....
Cali has had nice weather recently, but that could change in an instant hahahaha. January is usually really nasty around here. It gets rainy, cold and yucky. Hopefully with the unusually warm winter we have had, we will have a few more weeks of nice weather. It can rain after I am done moving my stuff LOL
Le sigh, I am packing as we speak. We get the keys on the 15th, and due to other time constraints, we are trying to move everything on the same day, so I am packing my little heart out. Hopefully with all my planning, things will go smoothly. I can't wait, I am shooting to have all the tanks out in the living room on display! Wish me luck LOL
Hope you all had a great new years!

LOL!! you'll do it.
A week from now you'll be wondering what you were worrying about. The unpacking the other stuff is the chore.
