Is carbon necessary in the filter?

I added carbon to help clear up the water last month. Now that the water has cleared, should I remove the carbon or should I keep using carbon in the filter?

from what i have read and seen in my own tank carbon only last about a week but it is amazing if your tank starts to smell funky lol

You can leave it in or take it out. I have always used carbon and for me i love it. Ill change it about once every two months. Even after the carbon stops absorbing the funky stuff in the water it makes a great place for BB to grow. It wont leach it back into the tank if thats what your worried about. My midskipper tank starts to smell a little funny because of the land section and carbon works great. Just stay away from the ammonia chips. Your BB needs the ammonia.
