How long does driftwood last?

I've had some of my driftwood for three years now, and I was wondering how long it generally takes before it needs replacing.

Some of the thinner pieces of mine are breaking off after 2 years.

My driftwood hates me after 1 year in high brackish water. I "scrub it down" every week and use a resin filter in my Aquaclear to help with the discoloration of the water. It works okay for now, but I can't even tell you how much I hate dealing with it during every water change. Complete pita.
I have some mopani wood in my freshwater tank that has been there for three years--no discoloration to the water, no noticeable disintegration (I do use a resin filter in that tank as well).

Mopani does eventually break down, but it is wonderfully slow and does not discolor detectably after it is 2-3 years old. I do have some that is >20 years old still in use.

That's what I have. Excellent, thanks. I really don't look forward to replacing this perfectly-shaped piece that has moss and ferns attached JUST right!

I never have to worry about it. My plecos eat them first. One pleco also took half of the only internal background I have too. For a long time I thought it was something wrong with the filter, as the noise started every evening, after the lights went off. One day I realized that the crunching sounds fit exactly to the movements of the fish' mouth movement. I moved him to another tank pretty quickly after that.
BTW, driftwood and BW does not go well together.

LOL! I only have 2 "real" (larger than dwarf) plecos ATM. They are both protein-eaters. Oh well.
