i don't think salt brand is important, of course it depends on he trust you have on the brand supplier.. i use instant ocean & red sea, both with very good results, i also try coralife once but there were no problems at all---

I've been using petco brand for months with no problems, but I just switched to instant ocean reef crystals and my gsp's color seems brighter. that may just be in my head though. the petco stuff was faster to mix and smelled better.

Jack's has Instant Ocean Reef Crytstals are on sale (2x50gal bags $30). Can I use this for my F8 tank? I premix a week ahead of time. What is the difference between this and the regular Instant Ocean marine mix?

the reef stuff has calcium and magnesium. that sounds like a good deal, its 26 for 1 50 gallon bag.

I would advise you to get whatever's cheapest.

There are some more expensive brands that I think are meant for reef tanks. Or, anyway, that's what I've heard from people who actually have SW tanks!
