danger from paint fumes?

Hi Folks, hope this question is in the correct forum. I plan to paint my bedroom where my GSP resides. Besides opening windows, fans, etc. what precautions do I need to take to protect my GSP Lucy? Her tank has a full hood. I would cover her tank with a sheet or blanket while the actual painting is in progress. Is there any suggestions how to go about painting safely with the tank in the room? Thank you so much!

I would think you would be best to drape the tank in thin plastic and then cover that with a blanket. The weight of the blanket on the plastic should help seal it up a bit. Then choose a paint with low VOCs (volatile organic compounds). The only bad thing about low VOC paint is that doesn't perform as well as higher VOV paints, but it will be fine in a bedroom.

I would leave the tank covered for 12 hours or so to let everything dry and dissipate.

Your pumps/filters will move the toxic air through the tank.

Thanks so much for your suggestions and advice. I was toying around with the idea of setting up Lucy's new tank in another room, so I think I will do that. My bedroom has had the same paint for about 18 years, it can wait a little longer for a new paint job. I don't want Lucy to be harmed by any fumes. :)
