Hello,
I really want a puffer fish and I can only afford a 16 gallons ( 60 liters) tank (my apartment is very small and bigger tanks are expensive). I have been searching on the web for weeks and weeks but i still don't know exactly what kind of puffer i could get to put in such a tank. I would only get one.
I really like GSP's but i've heard they can grow to 6 inches and need 30 gallons? Do they really always grow that big??
Thanks in advance for your answers!

Is it really the only kind of puffer I can get? They're just not as cute

1 figure 8 puffer would work I think. Though 3-4 dwarf puffers could be fun too.

You are likely to need a snail breeding tank as well for puffers.

Considering the tank size, if you get a healthy one, they are REALLY big on personality.

They definitely aren't outshined by other puffers on personality. At least what I have seen so far.

Do they still come look at you when you get close? Cause that's what I really like about puffers, along with their smiling faces, their shape and their intelligence...

ohhh yea.... little beggars!
He won't follow my finger but he is ALWAYS there when I am near the tank. DP's are the lap dogs of the puffer world.

My DPs hide a lot of the time but as soon as they see your eyes facing the tank they immediately come towards the front. Seriously, I can sit at the computer all day in plain sight and the very instance that I turn my face in the tanks direction they all hover towards the front. One of mine will follow my finger and one will kinda fallow it...the other will not.
Have you checked around to see what types of puffs are available? Also keep in mind that GSPs are marine fish anyways and that F8s are brackish.
What are the dimensions of a 16g tank?

I am still thinking my GSP wins in that department but I am sitting just under half a meter away from the aquarium all day doing my job. As soon as he sees me looking into the tank he hurries to the window to beg for food

Though dwarfs will probably do the same

There are also several other small, FW puffers, in the Red-Eye (Carinotetraodon) family, you could keep as a singleton. See our Pufferpedia.

60x30x30 in cm, or 23''x12"x12"
So can a figure 8 puffer really be happy in there?
