I got some littleneck clams from my seafood dept at my grocery store last week and they have been freezing for that time. They are not on the half shell. How do I go about cracking them open? And are they ok for puffers??

I'd assume one can simply pry them open with a sharp knife? I wouldn't be able to tell you if they are good for puffers or not though. I guess that would depend on how they have been processed if at all.

if they were with the fresh seafood then they should be fine . Pry them open with a knife and crack em with a hammer.

The meat inside usually expands from the moisture when frozen. I unthaw on tank water and add vitamins (nutrients are lost during freezing). I then take a knife and slightly open the shell just enough so the puffers have to work for the meat...that way they can scrape their teeth as well. Ares is big enough now that he cracks shells with his teeth instead of working to open the shell...I'd hate for him to bite me!

everytime i thawed them out in tank water the shell would open on its own. i rarely would have to open them myself. and for that i would put them wrapped in something and just smash it with a hammer or anything hard that will break it. i have a thing with slicing myself open while using knives lol. not that im afraid of blood or cuts, i just have damaged my hands already too much over the years
