What would happen if a fahaka ate two figure eights one day and a goldfish the next day? Along wi some cockles?

My friends did that and just passed away ten minutes ago hesaid he looked constipated

It just sounds like bad tank maintenance to begin with... I have a feeling there is much more to this story than your friend is disclosing.

He only had it 48 hours

The fig 8s probably poisoned him, what was he thinking? Goldfish are also bad. Why would your friend buy an amazing fish and murder it?

1.- F8 = Poison.
2.- Goldfish = Undigestible Fats.
3.- Sounds like the preys where very easy to hunt so i think he was in a small tank i bet, so probably go dirt and weak.

The combination of these 3 can kill anything.

I'm very particular about which people I consider friends. That would permanently remove them from that list. I require my friends to have compassion for living things.

Puffers are not sensitive to puffer toxins, so I doubt seriously if 2 F-8s poisoned a fahaka.

T. lineatus probably has saxitoxin and is immune to this poison (probably = I don't know that for sure. Saxitoxin is mostly found in FW puffers, but also some marine/brackish species. The studies I know on T. lineatus poison are quite old and name the poison tetrodotoxin (ttx), but at that time saxitoxin was not known as a puffer poison and puffer poison in general always was thought to be ttx without analyzing the molecular structure). T. biocellatus has ttx (modern studies available). I don't think it is clear that a puffer with saxitoxin is immune to tetrodotoxin (a toxin it naturally has little to no contact with in nature). Both toxins work similar by blocking sodium channels of the nerves, but not exactly the same, so I don't think because an animal is immune to one poison it is also immune to the other. Consequently, I would not say that in this case a intoxication can be ruled out... and: oh yes, the guy, who put them together is an idiot.

Thats sad!!! I would NEVER keep puffer & puffer together!! I had a 13" fahaka that ate 2 rubbernose plecos ... got constipated (I was not home) couldnt take care of him and that lowered his immunity. He then caught a fungus that no1 had ever seen! Later i assisted in his passing after a weeks treatment of erythromyacin, with salt... hoping he would handle it and what was killing him wouldnt handle it. RIP guy ...
