The Puffer Forum

I've been given a good bit of options on this forum on kinds of food and how to care for the food before feeding, but I found this at my LFS:

They have a huge selection of foods at a good price.

It may be worth getting as a selection to see what your puffer likes/ dislikes and buy separate from there as it seems quite expensive

if you have a GSP, which it seems by your info to the left, then this will probably make him very happy. if you had a larger species though, you would probably be better off getting stuff from the grocery store. my GSP loved frozed cubes of bloodworms, mysis, mussel, clam and squid. he would never touch mussel on the half shell though :/ never understood that

GSP yes, so far it's been eating blood worms and snails, my other LFS is getting my half shell clams, but was looking for a variety since blood worms aren't very nutritious.

you can always soak in a vitamin to make up for any missing nutrition. most people here feed a very varied diet but still soak in vitamins for the puffer. hopefully your LFS isnt charging you out the butt for those clams, if so you might be better off buying them at the grocery store fresh and then freezing them to kill off any bacteria, thawing when ready to feed and put the vitamins in the water you are using to thaw it out.

you can also try crab legs, breeding your own marble crayfish like many people here. sometimes people will buy a "treat" once in a while and get a small live crab for their puff from the grocery store. just try to stay away from krill

I would say no because it contains krill.

I found 2lbs vacuum-packed frozen mussels at my local produce store for $4.

Why no krill?

it is known to cause lock jaw and is the equivalent of crack to puffers. feeding it too much might make it only want to eat that

At publix they sell a bag of frozen clams,mussels,squid and calamari for like $3.99 is from aqua star they call it seafood medley! Its all uncooked seafood .

Ok I was just curious to the reasoning behind it, will note.

I think it's cheaper just to buy a variety at the grocery store. I have a F8, so she's pretty small, but if your GSP is young, so is it. I've bought a piece of squid, a clam, and a scallop (only one piece each) at Publix. They've been about 30 to 50 cents each, and there is TONS of it because she eats so little.
