So i have heard quite a few different oppinions on whether or not a red variant is the only congo puffer that will get red. Tons of people have told me certain things to try to get the brown variants to turn a more bright red.
-add a red clay flower pot to the tank
-gut load ghost shrimp with red crustaceons(idk what kind)
-red substrate
From what i have been hearing the brown variants will not turn red. Ive been experimenting with a brown congo in my store and the red substrate and a red piece of slate have had no success what so ever. This could also be cuz hes stressed out in a holding tank.
So let me know what you think!

I wouldn't think a brown would turn red only different shades of brown.Mine turns from a pale red to a deep red.

According to Dr Ebert, there is a red & brown variety.

but they come inblack, brown, grey, marbled and red!

I've had my brown one for almost a year now and no sign of red, even though the tank has red/pink substrate.. He does go from very dark brown (when the light is off) to a very light brown during the day as you can see below.. He likes to sit in his plants

Umm, there is nothing mentioned about the varieties...Other then the extra pictures I saw of them a while back.
