I figured i'd get some input on setting up a Co2 system for my tank. Here's the deal, i don't have many plants in the tank right now. (Actually all i have is bleheri). If i was to set up a DIY Co2 system (the 2 liter bottle method), would there be much excess Co2 since i don't have many plants and if so would the Co2 be a problem for my GSP?

Short version; Does excess Co2 hurt Puffers?

Puffers are pretty sensitive, and they really do need a high O2 environment, so I'd say no on the Co2. There aren't all that many plants that grow at brackish levels, and marine macro algae as far as I've read doesn't require Co2, since these are the environments GSP's should be kept in, I feel that makes the Co2 fairly useless.

I'd set up a freshwater planted tank if you want to do DIY Co2.

That's exactly what i needed to hear. I know there aren't alot of plants i can use in low end brackish and even less in high end brackish. Amazon sword will survive with no Co2 (or so i read) so i'm fine until i have to remove it all together. I just wanted to know if i could help it grow a little better, ya know?

No prob, amazon swords are super easy to grow as is, no Co2 required

Mine seem to start dying before they get very big. The leaves start to just deteriorate it seems like. They get about 3-4 inches and not very broad across, then start falling apart. =/

I cant grow a amazon to save my life. they all stay small and melt

Anubias on the other hand i can grow.

Amazon swords, at least the common and inexpensive ones, are easy. But they are relatively hungry plants.

No FW plants will survive the SG required for GSPs.
