As you all know I had told you about how Gilbert would lay around and boring as heck! Well for the past 3 days I have been a happy camper I tell you what! He has been up swimming around the tank and pretty much been extremely aggressive! He had eaten part of my bichirs face off....and he was limp so down the toilet for him! But it is funny watching him chase the bala shark around! I shall post some pics of him soon! But still extremely happy that he is because a "true" fahaka
I was planning on moving him and stuff and looking for a larger tank, but seeing as I have surgery on wednesday that isn't going to be happening until I recover!

Please remove all tank mates--it's not fair to them to continue in there.

It is being worked on as we speak! Finding new homes! Just happy he is out and about exploring and such!

poor bichir. u should have just shipped him here! arent fahaka's one of the most aggressive? and did you name your puffer after the guitar player??? i had a fish named gilbert for that reason!

Everyone makes mistakes, and sometime tank mates don't work out. I had a batch of odessa barbs, and 3 of them were kind of "different" and sickly, my bichir ate only the "different" ones. I moved the others. I feel bad, but they were getting harassed by the normal looking barbs and didn't seem happy to say the least. I guess they were releasing stress hormones or something.
It's not generally going to be well received to knowingly put fish in a dangerous position.

Well Gilbert wouldn't go near the other fish for the longest time. Plus the fish came with the fahaka when I inherited the tank from my buddy so I had no choice after his face was eaten and he died.

there seems to be some morbid pleasure behind this..........
a "happy camper" takes some kind of pleasure in a Bichirs' face partially bitten off, and then FLUSH.................
and i'll bet that poor bala shark thinks it's a riot being chased around by an aggressive predator until someone who is "recovering" comes back to rescue him........
what the heck is going on here?

Well it was either get rid of him or keep him and risk having Gilbert and the other fish get injured. I called around to my LFS and they do not want the cichilids anymore. I have been there and they have like tanks full of 40-50+ of them. So I mean its their own deal. But I couldn't risk the other fish getting attacked anymore.

guess it's OK for the bichir to get it's face partially ripped off and flushed, and the bala shark to live in terror, but heaven forbid the cichlid might have injured Gilbert..............

Fahucker not to also get on your case BUT.... The posts above were from weeks ago and people have repeatively told you that anything in the tank with Gilbert will more than likely become dinner especially in a 40 gallon. You have had time to try and figuer out a good solution. Two down one to go ( or are the cory catfish still in there) ... have a heart.

This really is a disturbing post.
Fish respond to pain the same as mammals, they just don't have a voice. It's an unfortunate myth that fish "...don't have any feelings", but it is incorrect.
If you find joy in animals hurting each other needlessly, as a result of your interference, (you force predator and prey to live in small quarters), as I said above, this will not be well received here. I'm sure you're not trying to be upsetting, but this does sound creepy.

Take a moment to consider your situation, and try to imagine life from the fishes' perspective. You are responsible for their well being, we can give our opinions on the matter all day, but ultimately they are your fish and your decision.

remember that the fish can only do exactly what you want. their lives are thoroughly and fully in your hands. and how do you put a price in dollars on a life realistically?

think about the most scared you've ever been in your life. put some honest thought into it...... got it? okay, now imagine right after that your face was ripped off and you were flushed down a toilet.
