Hi everybody!

I am new to GSP and would like to know if it can be tanked with other species, for instance an Angel Fish?

Thanks!

Certain fish can be housed with a gsp if tank big enough you will need the pro's to tell you which are potentially ok though. This does have variances to it as it depends on the individual puffer. Tell us a little about the tank

Some of us do puffers (and most other fish as well) basically in species tanks.

My GSP (Demon) is the most aggressive out of all of my puffers. After years of raising puffers, I have learned they do best by themselves, and that would be my advice to anyone else as well.

First of all, I thank you all for your advice.

My tank is up to 30 gal decorated not heavily, enough space to 'fly' for my GSP.

my gsp will not tolerate any other fish in HIS tank.

However when I left for a long weekend I threw some gut loaded ghost shrimp in there and they are still swimming around with him...

No idea why he hasn't eaten them but he always follows them around checking out what they are doing, but wont eat them.

That's funny that a ghost shrimp could survive. It seems like shrimp are always first on the menu to go when my puffers have them available.

yeah i am not sure why he lets them live. He really likes to follow them and see what they are doing though it is so funny to watch them

30g is the bare minimum for a GSP alone. No tank mates in there. If you were willing to upgrade to a 55g (highly recommended), you might be able to try a tomato clownfish or a small school of damselfish. BTW, your puffer will get very bored in a lightly decorated tank. they need lots of complex decor, to keep their life interesting!

Here's my 55g GSP tank:

PP that tank is beautiful!!!!

Your GSPs are gigantic. I cant wait for mine to grow to that size.

Is your substrate crushed coral?

Thanks! Yes, crushed coral. All that decor is fake, BTW... ;)

^^First try with the image thing. hopefully it works

I have crushed coral in my GSP tank and when i go full marine i planned on getting Live Rock, if you have all fake decor where is your tank biological filter? Is it necessary or Is there enough in the substrate or do you have a sump or something we cant see in the pic?
Thanks

That was when the tank was still BW, still using FW filtration. As I changed up to marine, I added a HOB protein skimmer & slowly added live rock. I soon realized that tank wasn't large enough for my 2 adult GSPs & I re-homed them & then removed the CC & put in live sand & made it into a reef tank.

From the picture I never would have guessed the decorations were fake. Looks fabulous!
