Hi there!

This is my first post and I'm new to puffer fish. I got a Green Spotted about 3 weeks ago and he seems a very happy little chappy He's currently in fresh water as he was in my LFS but I was wondering if it would be okay to start moving him into Brackish conditions... At the moment he's about 4cm nose to tail and wondered if his size and/or age should prevent me from changing his water conditions so early on.

I've done a lot of research (and am in the process of setting up a marine tank) so know exactly how to go about the process, the steps to take and how gradually to add the salt etc. The only info I can't seem to find and the only definite answer I haven't got is whether his youth and size should stop me from changing the SG yet.

Nope, you can begin the transition at any time regardless of age, provided that the tank is fully cycled and the nitrifying bacteria can take the stress of increasing salinity without going through a mini-cycle.

I would recommend you start now. You can never do it too soon I do believe. If he has no tank mates I would say you are in the clear to up the SG .002 a week. Meaning after the first WC you should be at 1.002 and the next week 1.004 so on and so forth.
