Hello!

I don't think I've ever been on a forum before and I'm quite excited! I've owned my GSP for 3 years and encounting now, his name is "Hef" like Hugh Hefner from Girls Next Door, Cliche I know, but it's cute, I usually call him Heffer fish, well, because he's a puffer fish! We currently reside in Asheville, North Carolina. When I first bought Hef, I got him at Wal-Mart and immediately did some research and converted him to a Salt Water Tank. He is a happy little fish! He's about 2-3 Inches long, perfect coloring, always smiling and very friendly, his tank is near the kitchen/living room and he always greets us when we come near his tank, a great fish to wake up to.

I feed him scallops occassionally which he adores, and i've also fed him Tropical flakes which he does enjoy it seems like, it was reccomended as a in between food for GSP's on another website, but he gets small pieces of scallops more.

I'm always open for tips and comments on how to care for and take care of the GSP's so feel free to help!

Cori

Welcome! :D

Here's some good info on GSPs to have:

Happy reading! If you have any questions, ask away.

It sounds like you have some experience with your little puffer! I've had my GSP for about 3 years as well, and he is one of my favorite puffers. Do you feed the scallops on the shell, or feed any crunchy foods like snails? Don't want his smile getting too big, you know? :) Welcome to the forum and feel free to ask any questions you may have, or share things you have learned.

Welcome! I just got my GSP recently. What salinity are you at after three years? How quickly did you move up in the salinity? =O I just ask because I don't want to shock my little fellow xD

I have a small tank and I just went to the pet store and got a pre fixed sea salt, and it should have however many gallons your tank is, you put in half a cup of the pre mixed salt, I've done that and he's been happy ever since. The transfer over was easy, I did half of what the gallon to salt ratio and then maybe 1 or 2 months later I made the whole mixture. He didn't even notice a difference.

And hiya xrayjeeper83

I usually only feed him raw scallops without the shell, I've thought about getting Ghost Shrimp, any suggestions?

This past year, I had bought a Turbo Snail that was meant to help clean the tank of salt water fish, but I think since Hef has been alone for 3 years, he did NOT enjoy the company and was more hungry than welcoming and I think he indulged himself in a killing of the Turbo, so I haven't really done anything else major besides scallops, Anything you reccommend?
