I've kept 4 different specimens over the yrs. and I've worked with COUNTLESS others and I am convinced that they can be sexed: NOT SCIENTIFIC JUST MY PERSONAL OBSERVATION,

Males: slightly more streamline then females, cleaner & bolder pattern, more aggressive ( 98% are aggressive but males tend to be over the top), a little more active, grow a little quicker (probably due to no breaks in growth to produces eggs periodically)

Females: stripes tend to be a little "muddier", they are more full bodied, if you watch them close enough they do tend to fill with eggs periodically throughout the year,etc...... basically the opposite of the male of course

For the three I have kept, I pretty much agree with the points given, but the only positive one which is infallible is that the females dump eggs and males do not. The egg-laden females do have heavier bodies and are significantly different in profile and top view when egg-laden. Their plumpness tends tend to be on their sides and further back than simple belly fat (that is just overweight IMHO), and it waxes and wanes. But without the eggs, there is no certainty.

Maybe Filbert is a gal then? Her stripes have always been more mottled, than some of the gorgeous, bold maroon ones I see. Do you guys think the prettier ones grow bigger too? Because Filbert/a is 12 years old & only about 12".

I was also curious about this. Did filbert grow quickly to 12" inch and stop? Or did he grow slowly past the 6 inch mark?

Slow after 10".

About 2 years from 1"-10", slow after 10".

i think maybe we could start a new thread and compile growth etc. It would be mega exiting and we may learn something? What do you guys think? We could try to compare growth and temperament etc, and who knows we may (i doubt it but interesting anyway) learn to sex this puff. If we learn nothing we get to gloat about our beatiful fahakas to each other lol

I think I remember a topic here earlier this year, where people compared the growth of their Fahakas. But I can't find it right now (well, I didn't try very hard either ).

size is the one thing I forgot and yes I do think males get larger than females it is the males that hit the 18+ inches not females

I did not see any detectable color differences. My female was smaller than the two males, but even that was not a huge difference. The hyper-dominant (or hyper-aggressive) male was the best colored, but all three looked pretty good.

Now I feel better about Filbert/a being smaller than 18". I was afraid I stunted him/her!

I don't think Filbert is stunted I think Filbert is just Filberta
