Dead fish buried in tank

I recently brought a diamond goby home to my tank with my puffers. He was fine for the first few days, but I believe was buried when the sand he was burrowing in collapsed on him. I can't be certain, but after moving all the rock in my tank, I have not seen hide nor hair of him in two days. I need help on how to find a fish in 2-3 inches of sand.

Take your hand & stir it up. Need to be doing this before every weekly WC anyway. Look inside any hollow ornaments you may have & if no else fails, look around on the floor for him.

do you have a cat or dog that might have eaten it, if it got out of the tank?
if it died in the tank, your ammonia level may spike
check your ammonia level regularly until you figure it out......

Found my dear Rommel. He was not in the tank, but dried into my carpet. Goddamn fish man...
What a waste of 25 bucks... walrus...

Do you have a cover on the tank? Puffers are even better jumpers...

I have the two panel glass cover but thereis a two inch gap on the back, only partially covered by this hard plastic piece. Any tips on what to use to fully cover it?
