hey guys i am setting my large fahaka tank up and i am wondering if having pool filter sand is going to ruin my FX5 filter???? i am wondering if anyone that uses PFS has ever had problems with it getting sucked into the filter and ruining the motor etc... i paid to much for the filter to ruin it with sand... also is this going to be the best substrate for my fahaka?

I use it in my Fahaka tank, Ceylon tank and my planted bichir tank. Works awesome. I have a combo of AC110s, a sump (with a quiet 1 - 6000) and the last tank has a Fluval 305 on it. I have no problems with any of the filters getting sand in them.

You might want to turn off your filter when you stir the sand for weekly cleanings. Or get a heavier sand.

also keeping the intake higher in the water will help it not suck up sand

Out of curiosity how big of a tank are you setting up? (I'm in love with really large tanks)

k thanks guys im setting up a 90 gallon that probably isnt big to most people but to me it seems large. when i move into my house in about two years i am going to get a 220 gallon though! i cant wait for that! but i think i may end up selling my 90 and getting a 125 soon. because i heard that a 90 is to small for Cuda (my fahaka)...

i got this settup for $250 with all the decor filter lights stand THE WORKS SCREAMING DEAL! but the sand is a mix of pool filter sand and black crystal sand it looks pretty sweet! and the setup is only a year and a half old. the stand is made of cement blocks and 4 by4's from home depot home made stand its pretty nice though!
