Thanks for the forum. I'm finally able to start my puffer tank. It's a 29 gallon fully cycled from previous freshwater fish and learning what I can to get it brackish, very slowly before I get a puffer in there. This looks like a great place to start digging.

What kind of puffer are you looking to put in there?

Thinking of a Figure 8, but studying on a few other brackish choices. The LFS I trust has had a nice Figure 8 for a while, and in the same tank with a Mono together in a 20 gallon. Any recommendations are welcome, or should I put this in a new topic somewhere else?

I'm a relative new comer myself, but I don't think this is the wrong place. I'm sure one of the old timer will correct us if we're wrong. If you have your eye on the F8 and you've done your research, they can make excellent pets. Have you checked out the pufferpedia? Sorry I'm of no help with F8s. I've only had one puffer before and that's the Green Spotted Puffer I currently have.

Hi welcome to the forum. Ya this an amazing place to learn about puffers and how to care for them. One quick question, do you have a 29g or a 20 g tank? Because in the first post you start with 29 and then later on you call it a 20g?

I think they were saying that the LFS had a 20g.

oops I can't read. Ya keeping a f8 in a 29g would be fine. As for tank mates they're best kept in single species tank. I think i've read that sometimes you can keep some mollies or other hardy fish with puffers.

The tank is a 29 gallon. It's the LFS that has one in a 20 gallon with a Mono tankmate that I might take both. Just still trying to increase salinity and be patient.

Hi, this is my first visit here and I was told by a friend that this is just the place for anyone planning to start their own puffer tanks!! I was reading about the discussion here and was really impressed by what I learnt!! Will keep checking out as often as I can to learn more and will talk about the tank I am planning to set up!!

Hullo Ryan! Same advice goes... Any questions about keeping puffs you have can be answered here! The moderators and mentors will get u up to speed even if us puffer fry can't.
