I went to the LFS last week and they had a baby baby Fahaka that was clearly starving you could see the jaw bones and back bone (if they have one) no belly at all
so I explained that they could either let me take the fish home or it would clearly die with in the next week... they had been feeding it snails (the little ones that come on plants) several times a day....
When I asked if they had dewormed it... he thought I was nuts... OK
Like I need another Fahaka but I brought it home, put it in a heavily planted tank it is only a 17 gal however it is only about a 1/2 inch.
I have not been able to get it to eat shrimp, clams, ousters or muscles... however she is eating frozen blood worms and is taking bites while it is still frozen????
today she is poking at the chinese alge eater that is going to town on the shrimp LOL... starting to show her true colors oooo she just hit the shrimp for the first time
any way the LFS wants me to bring her back after I get her better..... What would you do?

If my apartment wasn't four square feet, I'd have a 150g corner bow-front, crazy-planted, with a giant spoiled fahaka. One day.

Up date on the Baby Fahaka,
Well it took some doing, since she had clearly never had any of the foods that are good for her.
I started with frozen blood worms- this was a challenge she did not know what to do with them, so I put one of my Dwarf Puffers in with her after watching him for a couple of days she got the idea and gave it a try, big shock she loved them
Then every other day would try shrim (frozen raw type from the store) she was having nothing to do with that, again after the Chinese algee eater and other puffer hammered it... baby watched them each day and sure enough now she eats that
you have to wounder if she is waiting to see if it kills the other fish if not then she eats it LMAO
Clams same thing- after a few days maybe a week on this then she gave in and tried it and now dances when she see's me with a shell in my hand
I do not think she is out of the woods yet, soaked earth worms in dewormer and got her to eat those in a snap.
todate - the back bone and jaw bones are no longer sticking outside of her body, her tummy when it is full is not all kind of bumpy just a little bumpy
i do still have her in the heavly planted 17 gal tank however she is only about 1 and a half inch long, I would loose her in a big tank and the out come could be bad.
I do have a new 240 gal tank that I am getting ready to set up... however does anybody really need 2 fahaka's or is the better question can anybody really aford to feed 2 fahakas LOL

Food is not expensive when you raise your own. Snails and marmorkrebs!
