Palembang Personality?

My LFS has 6 or 7 of these guys for sale, labeled as Black River Puffers (thanks to the PufferPedia, I was able to learn that they're actually palembangensis).
So they're described as "semi lurking." I don't want to get a puffer that I only see at feeding time -- it's the personality of puffers that draws me to them so much. The palembangs at the LFS are extremely active, but it's probably because they're all in a bare tank together with no hiding places.
Just how active are these guys typically? The ones available range from 2" to about 3.5". The smallest one has really caught my eye.
