It says on the bag I can clean it, but the way I usually clean substrate, it would just go down the drain. It does not explain how to clean on the bag. What should I do?

i think the way most people do it is by taking a bucket and put the sand into it. fill with water and stir. let sit for a bit til the sand settles and the debris is at the surface of the water. dump out some water, and repeat til you dont get much debris at the surface

I go into the back yard & shove the hose deep into the bottom of the bucket 1/2 filled with sand, until it runs clean. Keep pouring off the water as it fills.

Cleaning sand is HORRIBLE, lol.
I get my sand from mother nature because I live 10min from the beach. I like the fact that it is un-processed, but that means I have to do the dirty work. I Halfway fill a bucket and place it in the tub, with the hottest water I can stand running into it. For 15 to 20 minutes I swish the sand in the bottom and just let the silt/debris overflow. Then I turn the water pressure up and let it just hammer away for 20 more minutes. Have done this for 3 of my tanks now. Hope that helps!
