My 5 gallon is set up and is cycling. Today i finally received the plants i ordered to set up a biotope and i noticed i have some tiny hitchhiking snails. This is good news! i want to catch them if i can and set up a snail breeding tank so i have fun things for my dp to hunt when i finally get it. So i have a 2-3 gallon sterilite box (with lid) that i plan to use, what would i need to do to make it nice and comfy for the snails to make them want to breed? i also noticed one of the plant stems has what looks like snail eggs on it, i'm going to pop them in the new breeding tank too.

All you really need is food. There are a few things to get them to breed more quickly and make tank easier to maintain, but you could start here:

Thanks, i set it up a few days ago. I'm leaving out a filter for now and just doing water changes when i do my other tanks. I seem to be doing something the snails like, i started with maybe 2 reasonably sized ones and now have a bunch of little ones
I do have a question about how large they should get, i think i have pond snails but i could be wrong. Also, when i eventually get my dp how big should the snails be when i feed them to it?

as a rule of thumb the snail should be the size of a puffers eye. Larger snails should be crushed.

Thanks, looks like i'll be crushing a few snails. By the time i get my dp i'll have a lot of big snails.

I snagged about 30-40 + ramshorn snails from a local petsmart, and they are in my main tank. the water is at around 80, and i just make sure to drop in a lot of extra food. I noticed earlier today that i have at least 20-30 little egg sack/gel things. its really easy and you should have a huge colony in no time
