Hello everyone I am new to the forum but have been lurking for a long time.
I recently purchased a very healthy fahaka that is about two and a half inches long. It is housed in a one hundred and twenty gallon tank. I have read the feeding article and I know the foods to feed them. My question is are there any other small foods that are good for them. Mine is currently eating krill and silversides but it truly relishes bloodworms, I will be getting some chopped mussels this week. I just need some other ideas for hard foods ideal for keeping their beak trimmed. I have been keeping my eyes open for some small snails and crayfish but I haven't had any luck. Any input would be great.

Crack open mussels (there's not a lot of meat in there) & he will scrape his teeth on the shell to get the meat out. Small crabs & shell on shrimp tails work good too.

Yeah I am going to have to make a trip out of town to get mussels all they sell here is the pre cooked ones in fancy sauces

In the produce dept of your grocery store? I can buy a entire bag of them at Jewel.

Frozen foods, I feed my Fahaka Rock shrimp, just like normal shrimp but just with a extremely hard shell.

Also breed my own crawfish for feeding

Yeah im from a pretty small town I went to walmart and they also didn't have anything. I set up a twenty long today for a small breeding colony of marbled crayfish. I live about an hour north of columbus ohio but I figure if I drive half way I should be able to find some kind of shellfish for him. The funny part of this whole thing for me is I went from keeping large south american cichlids to one two inch fish in my one twenty.

I just realized your a fireman? My best friend is a fireman/paramedic--1st responder. I get to ride with him sometimes.

I know its not going to help with the teeth issue, but get some earthworms from walmart and your fahaka will love you for ever

Earthworms must be seriously delicious, because my fish go batdoodoo crazy over them.

Yeah I need to get some earthworms. I fertilized my yard earlier this year so I will have to go somewhere else.

most walmarts carry them in the fishing section.....just check them out first. Last time I checked them at walmart there was mold growing in the container

Do u have a latin name of this crawfish by any chance?

I found a sellar of a lot of crabs and shrimps but he uses latin names or the dutch names.
I cant do it trough Dutch forums because they will know instantly its for my Fahaka and then kill me online

Do a search for marbled crayfish they do not need a male to reproduce and they have large clutches of babys if I remember right its like 50 to 100 babys each clutch. You can find them on aquabid that is where I am going to get mine.
