Someone can correct me if I am wrong but I'm pretty sure they don't go througth the different colour stages while living in the aquarium. The colour he is now is what he will stay.

nah the yellow morph is the mature phase of a guineafowl puffer but whether it changes colour or not is down to hormones and it doesnt always occur. Its even rarer in captivity for them to do so but you just have to hope.......

but I guess the saying a Leopard never changes its spots doesnt always hold TRUE

Walrus Head, I always thought that the golden puffers juvie stage was that of the guineafowl puffer. Thats what "Dr. Burgess's Atlas of Marine Aquarium Fishes" book states too. Bout all I know about them. I have seen a full golden puffer yellow stage in a fish shop once that I fell in love with. But never seen another like it.

They don't change their color in nature or the aquarium. Your puffer will stay the way it looks all its life.

Sorry, that's completely wrong.
