Hey, I just joined a minute ago and I currently have a 29 gallon, most likely upgrading to a 55-93 not exactly sure which at the moment. These WILL NOT be saltwater tanks, and I am not exactly interested in Dwarfs, so I am pretty curious on what puffers would suit me! Thanks.

I will make it brackish if its too hard to keep up a freshwater with a puffer in it!

Obviously, there are far more listed than what you will be able to obtain, but at least you can research them first before buying; which is excellent.

If you want a BW puffer then I would suggest a figure eight puffer (F8) for short. Low end BW and very active and beautiful. Here some good info on them below.

I also advise a Figure 8. NIce brackish puffer.

If money isn't a problem, saltwater tanks are easier to upkeep than brackish...and then the possibilities open up a lil more...

How so?
You can keep a F8 at SG1.003 at 25 DegC meaning that it's only slightly more labour intensive than a freshwater system

Because full SW tanks have better filtration and reduced upkeep if not overcrowded and properly equipped.

But I would still suggest a novice to start FW or light BW with puffers.

Now, if you do make brackish tanks, could you keep fish such as knife fish, freshwater eels, etc? That is mostly the reason why I am upgrading for more room in the tank. Also, what is the price range of these puffers?

The fish you are mentioning above not only are strictly FW but will not fare well at all with puffers. They are serious fin nippers & best kept alone.

I looked into the F8s, and noticed that I could just switchout my 29 gallon to brackish, and just have a FW 55 or whatever it may end up being. But to the next 3 points. One, how many of them can i fit in a 29 gallon. Two, how expensive are they. Three, how can I switch out the water of freshwater to brackish?

i would concentrate on the fish you want without the puffer and consider one when you can provide a puffer only tank . just my opinion. its what i did

I agree with Bertie, although in a 29g I kept 2 F8s & a pair of knight gobies.

Well, could you fit any F8's in a 10 gallon?

15g is the minimum recommended size for a singleton.
