So one of our friends moved to Colorado to go to college and left his tank behind in his upstairs bedroom... no fish, but *NASTY* fetid, years-old standing water. Needless to say his older parents didn't want to deal with breaking it down.

My boyfriend and I did the deed this week and scored a 55?G bowfront in AWESOME (used) condition, full-glass lid, large HOB filter, some cool decor and a hood/light & some random (probably now useless) medication/other little things. They'll need bigger someday, but I can't wait to see them rioting in their powerhead along the bowed frontglass.

Unfortunately my bf took a nice swig of the tank water while we were working (we just have 2 buckets and a siphon, and he's not as practiced, ya know? ) He thought he was DYING but it seems he's doing fine, still eating, etc... LOL. The kid's mom said she had dumped bleach in the tank "a couple of months ago" but there was some serious/mysterious algae growth when we got there. I'll post some pics once I get it set up this summer, it looks pretty shady still... I should've snapped some "before" shots.

I would clean that thing put it in place and swap tanks!

What kind of loaches do u have?

lol swallowed years old, bleach and algae water... mmmm... lol i dont know how he ate after that i would have thrown up and called it a day

@ Clowntje I have to wait til summer b/c we are moving soon and I don't want to "double-move" them in just two months' time. Also we have to build a stand (only thing we didn't get with the deal, can't complain), it's not much longer than the 29G really, but it doesn't fit the stand at all in width and would need a support board cut underneath it, and I haven't cleaned much out yet. I've got a 4-inch clown that I got as a juvie before I knew what he really needed, he used to live with some tiger barbs (they moved back to the pet store), he now has 2 little clown friends and some lochatas and striatas that school around with them. And a rubberlip pleco and rainbow shark (he thinks he's a loach now). I didn't want to get too many clowns before I have a 100G or bigger, but I want to try to make my older guy more comfy, and I'd say it's "his"/(her) tank overall as far as I design it. He's a lot less neurotic than he used to be, almost always swimming around/dancing instead of hiding (not that they're not allowed to hide, plenty of cover and plants ) They all love to eat blackworms together, and wouldn't you know the (for-now) tiny lochatas are the alphas.

Also I have 3 Misgurnus (weather loaches) of slightly diff species in a cooler (temp) tank, so they get an upgrade out of this eventually, too!
