Clown Triggers

Anyone have a clown trigger with their puffer? I really want to add one, and think it will be my next addition.

They are big pigs & some can be very aggressive. Let the puffer be the main centerpiece of the tank & plan on smaller, fast-moving, colorful fish around him. How about wrasses (if you've got a good cover)?

How big is the tank? Do you only like larger fish? How aggressive is your puffer?

I have seen Clown Triggers pick on puffers twice their size.....

Triggers are evil. My friend's blueine trigger nailed my finger good when I was tank-sitting for her, took half an hour for the bleeding to quit. That fish is lucky I couldn't find an appliance with an electric cord long enough to reach the tank.
But to answer your question - no. A trigger will likely harass and eventually kill your puffer.

What about a clown grouper? They are pretty cool, I'm sure they would make nice tank mates.

Clown trigger have to be one of my very favs but would not trust them. They can be very nasty. Sorry got onto this one alittle late..lol. But had to throw my 2 cents in. Btw, a clown grouper is that a species of soapfish? Seen one many years ago and they are beautiful.

You might want to look up a grouper's adult size. They get BIG!

He should be OK, I will have him in a 200 + gallon tank. If he out grows it for some reason, I will give him to my buddy with a 800 gallon tank.

Nope that is a true grouper there. Soapfish is a different species.

This is a clown grouper but is also called a spotted soapfish (Pogonoperca punctata).

Soapfish is a common name applied to the members of the Grammistini, a subdivision ("tribe") of the subfamily Epinephelinae (groupers), which themselves belong to the family Serranidae.
So, every soapfish is a grouper, but not every grouper is a soapfish.
Oh yes... mixing Clown triggers with puffers... I cannot recommend.
