Going Good!

Well my tank is now at about 1.011-1.012 for SG. and my GSP is doing great, now just wondering what would be a better option for my puffer as a adult. Go full Marine or High-end Brackish? I have heard I could keep him in either, but heard to go full marine is better, would a protein skimmer be more efficient in slightly saltier water, or would it make a big difference at all? Do adult GSPs appreciate the higher salt content? Would live rock be a full marine only thing? I was wondering because in theory more salt= more salt cost, right?

We always suggest marine, because for the extra few points of SG, you can use SW filtration which incorporates a ton of biological filtration, which saves you a ton of $alt, because it'll eliminate the need for weekly 50% water changes. With a marine tank you can usually reduce to 10-25%.

Thats kinda funny more salt= less salt cost, it does make sense though. The other question is I'm saving for a bigger setup for a adult puffer home, and I heard in a 55g. I could keep a couple salt tank mates with my puffer, is it a good idea or am I better off keeping him on his own in a slightly smaller tank like a 30-40 gallon?

I think I'm gonna set it up as species only. If I get another GSP would they be fine or would a bigger tank be more suitable for 2? Oh and it would be a 55g. I'm talking about.

55 gallon tank can't hold two of them, I would recommend keeping him alone.

ya I believe PP had 2 in a 55 and said it was to small. If you want 2 go for an 80 gallon or so

I agree that a 55g is too small for 2 GSPs. Mine really needed much more swimming room & I was spending a ton on $alt.

Oh yah! I remember something I wanted to ask you guys. Do you think I could get away with 10-15% weekly water changes in a 55g. with lots of live rock and the only inhabitant is a GSP?

I'd go with 25%.
