I'm not sure a liquid test kit would be good, I can't find a salt+fresh liquid kit. I have found strip kits that cover both. What do you recommend.

Are you sure? I've only seen API Master Test Kits in Reef, Salt and Fresh.

My API came with 2 color chart cards, one for fresh, one for salt. All the salt in the water does is make the test read a darker/milky color on some. You can just buy the freshwater master kit, I *believe* that is what most people get for brackish. However, they maybe the same bottles packaged for marketing tactics. I think the reef masters has additional tests, like calcium.

So the fresh comes with a salt chart?

i believe there is a certain SG range that the fresh will cover up til. i am not sure of the highest SG that FW test kits can be used at i will try to find it though

ok so apparently theres no definitive answer. but what i found was this thread.
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=25864&p=278391&hili ... st#p278391
it seems like nitrite/nitrate tests are basically the same with FW and SW, but the big difference is the ph. there are people who use API FW kits for BW though. take a look at the thread, its not very long

sry i wrote that while your reply was written. at that point i would probably just get SW test kit. especially since your only going up from here. i would still test the ph with the SW one, but that might not be your exact ph since SW, BW and FW all differ from the compounds/minerals in the water. dont rely on the hard number you get on the card, just the color as long as it stays stable

You'll need the high pH test kit.

If by adding marine salt your water gets harder.... what happens if you already have hard water ~8.6 range from the tap? Will the harness ever exceed the test kits abilities?

i dont think it keeps upping the hardness if you have hard water and then make it marine water. i believe that it will just keep the levels the same as the tap, or raise it a little(if its a little higher than the tap). i dont even know if thats right or makes sense worded like that

but someone will correct me if im wrong
