Interesting/funny stories!

I want to hear all your fun or interesting stories about your large puffers! Ares really amazes me with his antics! For one he eats EVERYTHING that gets dropped in his tank. Last night he had a ghod size shrimp for dinner, he was stuffed and just laying on the sand. I decided to feed his prawns some algae wafers and he wasn't having it. He chased sown the algae wafers and ate them too! The largest prawn finally got a wafer and Ares attacked him, but not to eat the prawn, he wanted his wafer. The prawn had him by the mouth trying to take back the wafer, is was one of the funniest things I have ever witnessed. I decided to place some wafers under narrow clearings under rocks where the prawns hide...didn't work. He blew water at the the wafers to get them out from under the rocks! Amazing!!! He is just too smart! Poor prawns

I think the funniest thing is when the cray gets him, before her gets the cray. He swims around with the cray attached to him. Even puffed once, he was so upset.

Bloat will always come up to the glass when I sit at the table to eat, and he will look right at me, then to the top of the tank, and back and forth. Then after a few times he realizes no food is coming he goes to his pot and pouts for a few.

Them are funny. Had me laughin. Have not seen (Stripes) mine doing anything that funny but always seem to want food and likes to bite at the glass. But then again I always seen all my puffers do it time to time but I guess not as much as my fahaka...lol. Btw, I notice that Srkoe's fahaka eatin the waffers rather then the prawns. That is so cool, that puffer eating a waffer. Maybe try some good sinking pellets next for the prawns and see if your fahaka will try eatin those. If he does then you will have one that will eat just about anything because mine will not even try a pellet or such

. Nothing bad though but would love to add pellet food to his diet of frozen and live prey.

There's no way a prawn would last long enough to eat ANYTHING, in Filbert's tank.

Do y'all suggest a good type/brand of pellet to try. He acts like he's starving all the time (I know he's not). I couldn't believe when he ate them. The prawn that I'm speaking of is huge!!! He only really messes with them in the mornings before his light is on. Once the light is on he just begs me for food. I dropped some ghost shrimp in there the other night...that didn't last, neither did a fiddler crab. I thinks he's scared of the gigantic prawn because it fights back. I would rather him NOT eat it. Although it creeps me out I like having it in there to clean up. Ares also spits water at us when we look through the top of his tank, it's so funny! I found out tonight that if I stick my lips to the glass he will press his beak to the glass where my lips are!!! My son tells me he's giving me kisses...lol!

I use New Life Spectrum sinking pellets. I feed them to all my fishes. I think it's the best pellet food on the market. Alittle pricey but full of everything you could think of that is very healthy. Btw, Where did you get a live FW prawn from anyways? And the kissy thing he does, well thats what mine does alot too. I think most really active fahakas do this. Its cute though..lol

Four prawns came with him. The previous owners bought them as "ghost shrimp" and Ates never caught them and they kept growing! The largest is about an inch shorter than my iPhone and thick! One of my LFS had a huge prawn in a tank that never seems to move...he's always in the same spot in the tank everytime I go there...he's Been there forever. I'm gonna ask if they can order me some.

That is extremely interesting. I might ask one of my fish shops if they could order any live FW prawns. Well good for the winter months because Im about to go catch some live crayfish after all the back waters are back down. Bait shops also sale live crayfish different sizes too.

I'm about to be hitting up bait shops as well. Gonna go fishing this weekend, hopefully I find some. Where are you from in Ky? I am from there...the Radcliff/Elizabethtown area.

Bait shops are the best place to find fat, juicy earthworms!

Not a puffer story, but my Koi would splash me with its tail if I fed the other tanks first.

Maybe not in this thread, but post up some pics of this prawn. Im interested to see it.
I love how people say that fish have no personality, those are people that never had the right type of fish

This is a bad iPhone picture...the prawn us in the background by the tunnel. You can't really tell his size here.
