Sorry if I have misplaced it.
But I would like to know what Puffer this one is

It's a figure 8 puffer. It's a BW puffer (I move this to the right section). That one has very nice markings. A beautiful fish!

Yep looks like a F8. Something that I noticed about F8's, there seems to be 2 different markings. I mean, lets say you have a tank full in a lfs and you see so many F8's with the normal average markings and afew others that have this type of markings. I wonder if it might be due to different collecting location's or water condition's when born.

The store owner tels me its fresh water, and they are kept on fresh to.. Hm not good for the store .. Bad for the people who wil buy them

I am not at all convinced that the fish shown is an F-8. I would suspect that it may be one of the target group, which is fresh water.

Is there a high resolution picture which could be posted anywhere for a better view?

There are huge variations in F-8 markings, as there are with GSPs (which have an eve broader geographic range). My doubts may be due to my inability to see low-res photos well at all, but that does not look like an F-8 to me.

It really doesn't look like any F8 I've ever seen.

Body shape looks similar to a F8,....but I've never seen markings like that,...and it doesn't match anything in the 'Pedia.
Kinda similar to an Abei (picture from the 'Pedia)....but I have never seen one up close or in person.

They are sold as a tetraodon steindachneri. But that name does not ring any bells for me

I can't make a better picture .. Couse its in the store.. I am not sure to buy it . Couse I only want fresh water puffers

according to the name you were given, that is an F8. That doesn't mean that the name mentioned is the correct one though.

According to Badmans....it is another name for F8....according to another site it is a Palembang?!?

Looks like a F8 to me as it has the two large eye spots in the correct places.

The two eyespots are correctly placed, no argument there. But in the presented photo, the caudal peduncle spot does not show to me as a full F-8 spot. They are the only taxonomic measure we can see on a live F-8 photo or fish. The others require either anesthetized fish or preserved specimens - which w are not interested in doing.

All or most of the puffers common in the trade have had a variety of names, mostly incorrect. Some of the specific names have been applied to multilpe quite different fish by hobbyists and even some taxonomist.

With my poor vision, I am effectively limited to high-res photos, which are not used in forum discussions (they eat bandwidth, which drive overhead costs way up an are usually unnecessary). But that caudal peduncle eyespot is not clear enough for me to say whether i is or is not an F-8. To me it looks more target group (now Monotrete genus), but i cannot see it well enough to call it either way.

It is certainly a strikingly marked fish, whatever it is. I am glad I did not see it myself in a shop, I would have had to get it also, and I'm not doing any BW at the moment.

Until we get more taxonomists examining puffers, the edge fish are likely to continue being unclear.

Well, i have desided? That I am going to buy it tomorrow and try to make better pics than. Becouse it is a beautiful fish to see.

So when I have it I will show some recent photo's... I can not stop thinking about this beautiful fish ..
