I'm setting up a 29 gallon tank for a figure-8. It has an emperor 280 filter and crushed coral substrate. I rinsed the crushed coral repeatedly and drained before putting it into the tank, but my water is extremely cloudy. I've only set up freshwater tanks, so I'm not familiar with this product. Does it take a long time for it to settle? I have the F-8 with a package of bio-spira ready to go into the tank. Will it harm the little guy?

Nah, go ahead & put him in. It'll settle in a day or so. You can add filter floss to your filter, to "polish" ther water. I use it in all of mine.

Thanks so much. I have been reading every article on this forum for weeks, preparing for this tank. I have a 92 gallon with cichlids and a 15 gallon with several dwarf puffers. I had originally planned to put 2 f-8's in this tank, but the two didn't seem to get along that well at the LFS, so I decided one happy puffer would be best. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I make the transition to Brackish. I really don't know what new puffer owners would do without this site. We have some wonderful fish stores in Austin, with a large variety of puffers, but after spending a great deal of time on this site, I realize most of the owners and employees know alot about aquariums and especially cichlids, but not puffers. Between two stores today, I saw 12 different kinds of puffers. It was amazing....

You've done your homework and made the right decisions. I keep a single F8 in a 30, so our situations are very similar. Don't worry about him getting lonely - he'll interact with you and enjoy his big home.

12 species of puffers in 2 stores! You may want to post details with the Fish Store discussion at this site. Maybe some others here will give them good homes.

wow, can u post pics of the 12 and see if that shop does live delivery.. Also got my f8 in a 40 long--Hes spoiled!! But dont think hes gettin any live frozen shrimp--i only eat that when I go to RedLobster!!
