i have a big rock i think its mostly limestone that i would like to put in my fig 8 puffs tank to make a cave but wanted to check to see if it will adversely affect them or not. i will wait for a response before i put it in.

apparently it will change the water balance. It will make it harder. If you put a drop of vinegar on it and it fizzes it is limestone.

is that good or bad?

What is the tank volume and footprint?

Harder is better for F-8s. You do have them in light brackish water already, I hope. What is the specific gravity of the water?

I've considered adding limestone to my tank to increase KH for my F8 and BBGs. Where in OH do you live? I live in Montgomery County and our KH is like 3 degrees.

i live in montgomery county as well in clayton to be exact. yes i have them in light brackish water i keep it at about 1.003 to 1.005. i have black sand already so harder is good is what i wanted to hear.

I have limestone in my Marmorkreb tank. It does exactly as everyone is saying. I like it.

Landon, check out Craigslist for a 55g. I see them all the time and I bought one complete with stand, canopy, light, canister, etc for $100. Your f8s would be so happy in a 55g.

Also, I might be willing to sell my 46g in about two months if your interested. Stand, canopy, light, background, crushed coral/aragonite/PFS substrate. It's less than a year old and I'd sell it for $175. I wanted to keep it around just in case but if you can't find something better I'd sell it. @RTR the rock is a little bigger than a soft ball

That will not displace enough water to be a problem, so should be OK. But the tank is still too small.
