Hello, Me again. The guy that never stops asking questions and never has anything interesting to say.

I just want to know if you guys have an horror stories about some brandname or if you would suggest getting some really cool piece of gear I don't even know exist. Like an aquarium robot that changes your water while baking you cookies and doing your taxes. I would be so upset if something like that was around and I didn't know about it because I didn't ask.

Don't skimp on the heater.

I use an infra red temp gun to check temps at water changing time but a regular probe/cooking thermometer works fine.

The heater I have now seems to be doing a good job. I have one of those stick on thremometers on the glass and a floating thremometer just so I can check for cold spots.

I'll be happy to do the WC, while someone else bakes cookies & does my taxes!

Duct tape. Makes an excellent tank lid handle for when you inevitably lose the original one.

FLUVAL G - Series filters. Breaks the bank but man they're cool! (no, I don't have one lol)

Yeah, but I will have to do horrorible things to get my girlfriend to let me buy that... horrorible, unspeakible things.

Good:
test kits... get the best you can. Seachem line is excellent.

Diatom filter. A must if you are serious about keeping the tank crystal clear.

Bad:
When you think of 10x turn over, don't get a powerhead rated 10x your tank volume. Mine did 3 things: 1) it shot all my decor across the tank, 2) it came loose and shot itself across the tank, 3) it came loose again and shot the water out of the tank.

The powerhead thing made me laugh

I've been in this hobby for 32 years without a diatom filter.

My tetra filter 20-30 gallon filter is servicings 30 gallon tank. but I really feel that I want to get one of these babies in the near future to help clean the waste from the bottom.

I borrowed one once. Definitely not a necessity.

So what filter would you suggest for a 30 gallon freshwater?
