Mine is about the same size as yours now. I don't know the answer but I do know that I do not over feed my fahaka like I have seen many people doing out of enjoyment. I seen a extremely over weight large fahaka the other day in a video. I thought it looked really odd looking, only a mother would love..lol. I feed mine once a day but only enough to fill him and not the way of making him look like he is going to burst. He let's me know when he is full.

mine would eat until he looked like a basketball
but like you, i feed until i think hes had enough

if i feel like i've overfed him
i would not feed him the next day, and he would wait until the following day.
other days, i feed lightly.
hes very active, and not overweight at all.
i wouldnt jepordise his health just to see how much he can eat in one go!

I'm already getting dirty looks from him, as I didnt feed him today
it's going to be hard not to feed him every day, but I thought he was looking a bit podgy, so thats why I asked on here

The ultimate question is how do you know when he's had enough for a meal?

The other day I fed my Fahaka (14") 2 pieces of large market shrimp, and he still wanted more...

Hapi is only around the 4inch mark and gets fed every 2nd day, fish can go a long time with out food and can be easily over fed.

Stripes, my fahaka is about 7" total lenth. He always wanting to be fed so I feed him a small mount of food about every other day and then a good mount of food the other few days. When he slows down eating and with a kinda well rounded belly, I hold back afterwards.

I feed mine (about 8") every other day. This isn't always every second day. Sometimes he'll go 2 or even 3 days with food, then the same without. I like to change his eating pattern. In the wild, there's no way they have a set time or amount to eat. They eat what they find, when they can find it. Mine will eat 1-2 small mussels on the shell or a small handful (maybe 10-12 pellets) and 3-4 snails in one sitting. If he gets a crayfish, it's usually just 1 if it's a full grown adult. I'll toss the occassional cherry shrimp in for a snack also.
