my new fahaka puffer fish, i have been waiting for a long time now and hes finally here

he is just 1.5 inches including his tail

i am kinda worried, as when i picked him up he had been been nipped at preety bad

notice his tail fin is rather short, and his back fin is almost totaly gone

Congrats and welcome to Fahaka ownership . These guys are very awesome to own. Eat just about anything and everything too. He sure is alittle guy. Mine was a 6" fahaka when I finally got mine, wished he was much smaller though but it was all they could get. It's normal to see most puffers be all nipped up when housed with other puffers at lfs' and any holding tanks with multiple puffers. In mild cases, I like using a good dose of Stress Coat.

Better than Stresscoat is Melafix. I found Stresscoat to be useless.

should have taped it will get it next time? but hes already eating out of my hand. first time for squid, he just looked at it for like 3mins then took a tiny bite, and after chewing for a bit it was like a tornado. i had to let go of it was kinda scared i might either get hurt or hurt him from being in the way.

he hasnt touched the ramshorns yet. just cause he doesnt know probly. just in case he doesnt then what do i do as for good beak triming food.

You really don't want to feed it with your fingers. Ever. Get a pair of tongs or tweezers and only ever feed with them.

I'm really glad he's eating though

PP, I think Stress Coat is ok for less servere cases. I use to use it with beat up cichlids and worked great but when they got too bad then I treated with Fungus Eliminator by Jungle Labs in a seperate tank. Helped with the torn fins that started to become fin rot, very well. I use to use Melafix until the wife said nomore of that stink in the house..lol. So I could not use it anymore but when I did, it was ok but I seen other meds do a better job with out the stink, imo. Probley much safer to use on some fishes rather then the other meds though. But just like you, most hobbyist and breeders I talk to swears by Melafix.
