Trying to learn before I dive in!

Hi everyone,

I am in the process of cycling a 15 gallon tank and am hoping to keep a single figure eight puffer once everything is settled. I am cycling the tank in fresh water since that's how the pet store normally keeps them, then gradually switching over to brackish.

I just want to learn everything I can before the tank is done and I bring a fish home. I have kept several other fish before and have been breeding bettas for a while now but I have decided to eliminate most of my small betta tanks and just keep my big tank running and have a single fish in it as a pet, since I am living in a dorm and need the space and don't have the time to be washing hundreds of betta tanks all the time (last semester I was doing anwhere from 1-2 hours per night just cleaning tanks!) So I know about cycling and some of the more basic aspects of fish keeping, but i wanted to try puffer(s) because they are something new I've never done before and I enjoy learning about the keeping of other species. They have always had my heart :)

So i will be asking questions about feeding etc in the forum because I want to get everyhting right beforehand instead of messing it up after!

Jessi

Good job for gathering info first and taking it slow. You could also use one or two of the small betta tanks to bread some pond or ramshorn snails for feeding.
