The assassins in the breeder box are temporary, till I get around to acclimating them to Vlad's tank. I'm going to try and fill in that back corner again at some point - the water sprite died.

Did you bury the water sprite in the substrate? If so that could be the reason that it died off...

Er, yeah... It was potted.

It's a floating plant really but some claim that it can grow with it's roots buried but it didn't work for me either. I've tied some to my rockwork so it looks like it's growing from the substrate but the roots are well above it. I also keep a bit floating and I'm constantly trimming it to stop it from overtaking the tank

Cool, I'll try it another time. There's still a few shoot floating around, so when they get bigger, I'll tie it onto a convenient rock. Thanks!

Water sprite does very well planted in the substrate for me, and grows best that way. Back when we were clifff-dwellers, water sprite was grown emersed in our balcony pool (morning sun only) from potted plants. The goldfish would eat the submerse form. But like several other plants, if you bury thee crown, the plant will rot. It does grow pretty quickly and makes quite a large plant. Quite a number of fish will nibble or just plain eat this plant also. When floating it can shade carpet type plants, but Anubias nana and many crypts are okay under it. I actually have used it in DP tanks for a bit of shade.

i think the goldfish eats anything that fits in its mouth
