I was reading thru the questions and noted one lady has a snail tank and was wondering how to go about setting one up. My GSP gets frozen bloodworms and mysis shrimp. Snails would be great if I can keep them on hand!! How to's???

thanks

Blood worms and mysis shrimp are not enough. So, Here is a feeding article with other options.

Good article that is just about the same way mine is set up. I give mine algae wafers too which they much enjoy. I have found that keeping the bottom of the tank mostly bare is good because it makes cleaning much easier.

Also, many local pet shops have "pest" snails and will gladly give them away for free. I got a bunch of pond snails this way not to long ago. :D

My snail tank's doing well, it's unheated so stays at approximately 21DegC. It's 40litres and planted, it has an Eden 501 filter and an 18W compact fluorescent light. I dose NPK and trace elements once a week to keep the plants growing nicely. It's not the prettiest layout by far but I hope to steadily improve it as the plants grow in:

The grass type plant in the back left that is clearly dying was removed following this picture as it didn't appear to be a true aquatic.

I also have tortoises so I grow weeds and always have salad bags in the fridge so about once a week I blanche(?) a few leaves and throw them in. I don't worry when a few older leaves die off either because it's all food for the snails.

I've found that more eggs than normal are laid almost immediately after a water change.
