Converting fresh water to brackish water ?

I have had my F8 puffer for nearly a year now. I almost lost her too last week to her swimming down a filter tube AND that freaked me out. Anyways, She came from a fresh water tank and consequently I have been keeping her in fresh since then. My tank has been fully cycled and Im contemplating about converting over to brackish water. However, there is so much contradictory info out there on wether I should or not do this for an F8.
Also, If I do this conversion, will I need special equipment for the tank. Currently I have her in a 9 gal biube with an under-gravel filter setup. I have been reading that there is a marine conversion kit for these tanks but not sure if it's needed. Also, not quite sure about the SG. From speaking with one LFS, I was told 0.003, but also read 1.003.
Any advice would be wonderful. thanks ---- boyarm
