I was just curious about a Fahaka in a tank with a ph of 8.2? I saw Mbu puffers in African cichlid tanks so the tend to tolerate the high ph. I was not thinking about adding a Fahaka with African cichlids or anything. Just wanting to know if Fahakas can tolerate ph levels in the 8.0 to 8.2 range?

I have my Fahaka on ph 8 since it comes out of the tap that way.

She's now in it since end of oktober and she is doing great! She's eating very well and doing all the things she ever did in her tank.

Shouldn't be a problem, just make sure it stays constant!

Thanks . Yeah I know all too well about keeping a stable ph. I was just seeing if any Fahaka owners have theirs in higher ph levels and they done well at those levels. I still have not got a Fahaka yet, waiting on one of the lfs's to get their order in. If no Fahakas then I will still have to wait. Trying to avoid ordering any online much as possible until spring then maybe if none of the lfs's can order me one. My ph levels in my tanks are 8.2 so thats one reason why I asked.

I would take a good, long time acclimating it. They can adjust to most reasonable pH.

Of coarse . Oh yeah, another reason I asked, the lfs that is going to order or have ordered these puffers has high ph levels in most of their tanks and I dont know what set-ups they will have them in.

If the store gets a Fahaka in ask for a watertest off the tank the fish is in so u can recreate the same values.

The store where Kaya came from had actually the same waterstats as us so excellent no acclimating besides temp.

The move from NL to Germany was more difficult but turned out fine because of the preparing time i took for it.
besides a broken pump, ofcourse on a saturday evening, (1 out of 3) evrything went smooth. I never tested Ammonia or Nitriet on her tank, So with our over over filtration i am very pleased.

Well my ph levels and the store are close. Anywhere from 8.0-8.2. So I guess It should be ok.

That makes acclimating much easier for you! I hope the store gets them in soon!

Strange thing with my ph that I thought was 8.2. Tested it after a WC and its about 7.8 now. Strange even though I do my WC's every 2 weeks or once aweek if needed and use crushed coral as my subsrate. Might be because of the WC.

Well my local water company has been doing some upgrading. PH out of my tap is about 7.6-7.8.

Then thats the reason your ph is lower because of the waterchange with lower tap water. I dont know anything about crushed coral because I never used it.

Your tap water is just fine, scrap the crush coral, don't alter the pH unless you absolutely have to... Why would you take the extra step to rise your pH 0.5 for no reason? A high pH in a snail farm tank I can understand but the pH from your tap is great for fahakas....

No its not that HGI. My tempory tank aready has crushed coral as a substrate and a buffer. Not going to scape it, just tempory right now until I get the other tank up and going. Thinking either natural gravel or pool filter sand. Btw, my fahaka is doing really good with the crushed coral and higher ph.
