Alright well the time as finally come!

I've had this tank set up and running with water since this September and I've overly excited with joy that there will finally be a Fahaka living in it!

The one I got coming right now is just over 2inches (not including tail)

Right now the water is 77F and the pH is just shy of 7pH,

After spending months of reading and searching I fill I'll make a great owner and he/she will be a great addition to my fish room.

I still have a question though, I did reseal a 10g to use as a snail farm and I was wondering what type of snails are generally best to farm for a Fahakas? Under the feeding guide on this forums both snail farm links are old/broken links and it doesn't go into detail of what kind of snails. I'm planning on picking up some snails to start the farm on my way home from work tomorrow.

Pond and or ramshorns to start, then upgrade to apple or mystery snails?

Given their growth rate I have a feeling he'll chew through your supply faster than you can breed them

No pics? that cant be especially when they are that small! Ours was a lot bigger when we got her.

I also would say pond or ramshorn snails to start with.

I was thinking Rams or Ponds myself, but wasn't quite sure what to get. Soooo excited minus 30min till pick up

But from all the info I'm getting, any type of snail (aside from assassin's) would be ideal, just as long as the ones I'm feeding aren't to big.

nothing cone shaped. That includes MTS (Malaysian Trumpet Snails)

Ramshorns get larger than pond snails. I'd start out with them

Some here are using them. Super easy to breed.

Ramshorns get big - I've got 2 that are about 3cm in diammeter. they started off my snail tank about 6 weeks ago and now I've got lots of babies kicking around and some are now big enough to feed my figure 8's.

I went to every pet store in town today and no one for what ever reason has snails (probably cause there's not much of a market for them).... Well petsmart had their overpriced apple snails, but I'd really rather not support them unless it's last resort. I'm going to call my buddy and see if I can steal a bunch of his ramshorns to spare me till on of my suppliers can get me a bag of snails.


So far I'm aiming at getting some Rams/Ponds/Apples in my spare tank and let the magic happen.... We have a snail freak on my local forums (though he's a hour drive away), so I've been getting a hand full of snail information from him. One thing I thought I'd pass on to you all that I've learned from him is it's important to have a light on your snail tank, cause he got a batch of snails that came with very small leaches, the leaches are what he believes killed one of his snail tanks (the one that didn't have a light) and he later found that these leaches can't handle light.

go with rams, iirc I was told apples shells are to hard


Personally, I would make that 10g a marbled crayfish tank. They are super easy to breed(just have to feed em) and they breed like crazy and can be food at any size. From babies up to 3 or so inchs

Yea that dose sound like a rather bright idea to do, since I have piranhas who would also love to snack on them. Only problem now is actually finding someone near me that sells them or can get them in, I will for sure grab some as soon as I find a source (hopefully they don't cost more than $5 each).

if you get them from a local breeder then they shouldnt cost more then that. I got 4 shipped to me for 20 bucks.

Well all the better I found someone who's in the next city over who's just going to give me a few big ones to get me started for free. I have someone a few blocks away from me offering me Bladder snails, any thoughts on these guys?
