Hello Im a new Gps owner
I had two little guys for about two month and recently
one of them past away for about a week pior he stopped eating as much and laid at the bottom of the tank the majority of the time.
he switch between a black an white belly and would only eat the small snails i was giving him.
how ever the other one i have is healthy and happier then ever and has been the whole time the deseced fish was "sick"
Im just looking for an oppinion on the death.
So you think the one just became sick since the other one is still kicking it?
or do you think i am neglecting my tank?
I do weekly water changes and clean out the food they dont eat in a day.
Im really just lost on what to do and i dont want to lose another one.


Also

i had my siblings over the other day and had told them they could feed my puffer as long as they got the food out of the freezer
silly me not watching instead of grabbing the mysis shrimp they grabbed a frozen shrimp from the grocery store and dropped it in
before i noticed my lil guy had it half destoyed and really seemed to enjoy it.
Is this ok for him to eat?
obviously not for a regular diet but for a treat?

actually frozen raw shrimp is fine. Pre-cooked is not so good.

Could it have been a case where the puffer was sick to begin with and you hadn't noticed?

a) this topic should be in the hospital section
b) we would need to know the tank size, history, and chem levels.

I lost my little GSPs to an ammonia bloom when I first started. 1 piece of shrimp I didn't find caused an ammonia bloom and wiped them out.

You really have to watch them while they are eating. Any remaining food MUST be taken out promptly.

frozen shrimp is a great food for puffers...just dont over-feed

As far as the loss I think we need more info...Tank size, filtration, water parameters (Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate), salinity, temp, WC schedule.

Provide some details and it will be easier to reply.

To come to think about it it could have been disease from the start
just because he was never as active as the still remaining guy.0.0


i kept the salinty around 0.08 cause i was told that is proper amount for a inch to two
my ph scale always said it was safe. Im not sure how reliable the little sticky meters are though
For everything else i got my water tested at my lps and was told it was safe, but i couldnt tell you the levels

I got my lil -dizz from a wal mart and they were no help when i went back
so im relying mainly on what i read online and im so scared im not taking proper care of them, well of dizz

wall mart GSPs are notoriously bad. Not your fault at all.

also im wondering will a Green spotted puffer eat a green spotted puffer?
and if so around what size difference is safe to put together?
Im thinking after a next and last tank upgrade for this little guy i should get him a new pal.
