Well after what seems like forever, closer to 4-5 months i think, my marbles have finally berried. They all are hiding but i can see one of them. Cant wait for them to have the babies so I can have some free food for Bloat

HA! I hear ya. Mine are all (about 15) at the size they can reproduce. One is berried (probably babies already) and constantly hiding. My Fahaka and Ceylon go nuts for them! Best food IMO.

Sometimes a foreign language can be a bit confusing. I need a little translation here. I my mind, marbles are small balls of glass or other hard material. What's your marbles? And berried? In my mind I now see glass balls delivering raspberries.

That's funny, you must be wondering what's going on! I know I would be :p

The marbles are marbled crayfish Unfortunately I think that a marble producing berries would be much more exciting!

ya my marbled crayfish have eggs. And everyone says they have berried when they are holding eggs

Marble is a stone which commony has streakes ans smears of two colors. Glass marbles originally were glass spheres with similar patterning made by incomplete mixing of two or more colors of molten glass. Now any coloring showing similar patterning is call "narbled". But also any smallish glass spheres may now be called "marbles" regardless of the coloring.

a tip for the crayfish xray.....you will want to let the adults breed for a few cycles but don't let them become larger than 2 1/2 inches. When they get larger they tend to have more babies but they also start to cannibalize the younger ones.

Also...****CAUTION***

I had one large cray that had not gone to feed the puffers yet. She had young attached so I was waiting. One night last week, she lifted the 36"x 5" glass lid off by climbing on top of water lettuce and prying between the lid and top of the tank. The lid fell into the tank and broke in half on a piece of coral...luckily it did not damage the tank. The unfortunate crayfish was found later by my dog,...dried up in the corner.

Have tight heavy lids !!!

I keep my water level just above half to give them less room to make it up, even though yes i know they can climb the air lines

Inverts are stronger than most folk think. Small hobby shrimp are pretty puny, but even at the size of red-claw macros, they are not trouble-free. Even small crabs and crays are stronger than their size would make you think.

I have lots of interests - as a kid, I played with marbles. As an adult, I have been know to collect "art" marbles (which can be every bit as pricey as real jewels) and those intended for kaleidoscopes and teleidoscopes - which I find irresistible. Optics and light in general has always been a major interest for me. I have also worked a bit with leaded glass - all parts of the same interest. I guess even the prismatic fish and puffer eyes fall into the same broad interests. My house was designed as a lifetime study site for light and shade patterns and serves beautifully for such - the "look" varies constantly with the season and time of day. Life is potentially full of beauty and fascination, why not take advantage of it? Live! Don't just exist.
