Surprisingly I found these at Jack's Aquarium and Pets, a regional chain were I live. I picked up 3 and will pick up another 3 soon for my 46g. They are a little on the pricey side at $8 per fish but when you buy 3 you get a whole $1 off. The store I bought them from only had a few juveniles left so I'll hit another store and look for some more adults. The clerk said these fish don't sell very often and they had been at the store fore a while so hopefully they are stronger since they've been around longer.

Anyway, I had them in QT but I couldn't resist acclimating them to the 46g early. I dripped them for over 2 hours and I noticed that the smaller female was drifting and swimming upside down and I was getting worried. I thought there would be a good chance she wouldn't make it but a few hours later she was looking much better. She was probably a little stressed and from what I've read, these fish need very well aerated water and I think the water they were in must of been getting depleted of oxygen. Either way she looks totally fine today.

Has anyone kept these fish and offer up any advice or pointers? I've pretty much scoured the internet and found all that it has to offer.


These fish have amazing colors and I imagine it will only get better as they get used to their surroundings and I add to their numbers. Here they are in QT right after I got them. They are colored down but you can tell the one male has great color and you can see their beautiful finage.

Not the best pics because these fish are always moving.

I normally have this tank at 1.005 SG but I lowered to .004 to add these fish and I dripped them for several hours to acclimate them.

I bought 3 more and all I could get were males and I wanted at least 2 females so the males would display more. When I picked up the newest 3 I had the largest brightest fish picked out and the clerk dropped the fish on the floor from the top row of a the three row setup. The fish fell at least 5 feet and it was stunned after being put back in the tank and may have been OK but there was no way I was taking it home. Of course this was after I asked where the "celebes rainbowfish" were and they showed me the "brackish" tank containing GSPs and told me they must not have any. So I found them myself in the guppy tank.

I can't believe I spent $50 for a small shoal of fish but BW really limits your options. At least these fish are always out in the open to be seen. They really love to cruise the current on the front glass when I turn up the two AC70s. They are eating well and will chase away the BBGs for bloodworms.

I added a 20" light to the front of the tank as Bowfronts have a void of light in the front and these fish really need light from the front to see that great neon blue line and lemon yellow outlines. So now this tank has (4) 13watt 6500k CFLs and (1) 9 watt 5000k CFL.

I really want to try some of the Coralife 50/50 bulbs but I can't find any locally and I don't want to order them and not get the desired affect and not be able to return them...Because they aren't exactly cheap.
