The Puffer Forum

Hello to you all..

I am new to this forum and to fish in general. Have been lurking around for a while, reading and gathering knowledge.
Denmark is my country of origin, but I am here due to the severe lack of puffer related communities in my home country (cichlid country )

Being my second language, my english be somewhat lacking in terms of finesse, so I hope you will bare with me. I will do my best to write in a coherent fashion.

I have wanted a puffer for years, but have only recently taken the plunge and decided to start my first tank. I strongly believe in doing things right and didn't want to rush into this, just to end up killing my new aquatic friend. I now have the time and resources needed to ensure a long and good life for my future pet.
So over the last months I have been reading as much as I can about my fish of choice and gathering equipment and supplies.

I hope you will all welcome me to your ranks, and look forward too learning much more about the fantastic creatures that puffers are.

What kind of puffer were you thinking about getting?

I plan on getting a Figure 8.

A very good choice! It is a good choice for beginners as long as you can make brackish water!

A brackish tank shouldn't be a problem. As I see it, it is like most other things. If you get the right equipment, do the research and is ready to do the required work, it is possible.
I have also made sure that the supplier of my future fish, keeps them in brackish conditions. Fortunately my LFS of choice actually knows the fish they are selling and keeps them well cared for and in spotless tanks.

I have read those articles. A few times in fact. they are among the best I have yet come across, on the subject.

We've had a figure 8 for a few months now and she is awesome. She's active, interesting, personable, perky, and quirky. She's extremely food oriented and spends a lot of her time watching us. As soon as one of us gets up and heads near the tank she flies to the front and dances for food. Doesn't matter what you put in the tank either, she tries to put it in her mouth.

I'd like to welcome you silvershadow, and compliment you on researching about puffers before getting one, that's a very smart way to go about it.
