Alright my kitten has fleas, ive been giving him baths twice a week and combing him ever couple of days. What can I use to get rid of the fleas around my apartment? I cant call my apt manager. They dont know I have him, and before yall jump on me for not telling, I cant afford the 250 deposit and 10 extra a month(I forgot about it when I got him). So now I have a flea problem that I have to take care of myself

i would suggest a bomb of some sort, but dont know the effects it might have on fish tank(s). i know all pets like dogs, cats etc and humans i believe have to be out of there for a little while. all that might depend on the bomb. you might want to look into sprays or something of the sort before going the bomb route

I know a Bomb would be really really bad for my tanks. The chemicals released into the air would end up in the tank

yeah thats what i figured, never used one so never really looked into them and the ill effects of stuff like that in the house. what about like a tarp or something over your tank so it wasnt directly exposed to the open air? just some thoughts to try and help you out

Personally, I would just use a really good quality flea control on the cat & use a household spray to treat the rooms (not any that have fish tanks though) Keep doors closed until the house has been treated & then thoroughly aired. Even just using a good flea prep on the cat will eventually get the ones in the environment (cos they will jump on him to feed) it will just take longer. Don't know what is available to you over there - we recommend Advocate Spot On (from vets). Or you could taken him to the vets for Program Flea Injection (might be called something different in America) - it doesn't kill the fleas, just puts a stop to the breeding cycle.

Thanks for the info bigfatfish, I will look into that.
He is bathed with something that claims it will keep fleas away for 30days, and I put some drops on his neck that say they will kill the eggs and larva. The shampoo doesnt work to keep them away, I find fleas a few days later. But it does kill them quickly

We've had fleas many times and have never treated. Our dogs used to go to the clinic all the time and inevitably they'd pick up fleas. The dogs were always treated but that was it. We never did anything to the house and all the fleas would die. They actually did all die too because my dad and I are allergic to flea bites so if we got one we knew

Just get the frontline, and they will all be gone.

agreed about frontline killing them. but would that be sufficient for loose fleas that possibly are in furniture/clothes/you? gotta figure they will make their way back onto the dog but you have to hope that all of them make it back to him before each treatment ends

Ya, I guess my question was more for the fleas every where else. Killing the ones on him is the easy part

Fleas that feed on animals may bite us as well, but they can't complete their lifecycle without a proper host. So all the fleas not on your pet will either die of starvation childless, or jump on the animal and feed, killing themselves, or try to live on humans, which doesn't work. So either way everything is dead in under a month, and almost all gone at two weeks.

Unfortunately the sub-adult stages of the flea (pupae/larvae) can be dormant in your carpets for months & months - only under the right conditions, is the flea life cycle a fast one! Sadly, no quick fix!
